Sustainability – LEED

From producing flooring from soybean-based bio-glycols, to recycling the drums our raw materials come in, sustainable practices are part of our company culture.  We are proud to be a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and to offer our customers superior support in obtaining LEED certification points.

LEED and Sustainable Floor Systems

Created by the USGBC, the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design program, known as LEED, has strongly influenced facility design, construction and maintenance within the United States and across the globe.  A program that furnishes third-party verification of green buildings, LEED touches on the entire building lifecycle.  Projects can earn points at different stages, and in accordance with various LEED rating systems.

As a team, facility owners, architects and designers, construction managers and general contractors can designate the specific LEED programs that are the best fit for the project at hand.

LEED Credits We Offer

Environmental Quality

  • EQ 4.2 – Low Emitting Materials:  All Florock commercial and industrial flooring systems qualify as “low emitting materials”.  Nearly all emit zero V.O.C.  A few others are extremely low V.O.C. and are compliant with all federal EPA regulations.

Material and Resources

  • MR 1.1 and/or 1.2 – Building Reuse:  A variety of Florock sustainable epoxy floor systems and other resinous concrete resurfacers can be used to rehabilitate existing flooring.
  • MR 2.1 – Construction Waste Management:  We offer many packaging options to reduce waste – most pails can be recycled and kits can be ordered broken-up to minimize box waste.
  • MR 4.1 – Recycled Content:  Florock Eco-Blend products, available for use in the FloroQuartz or FloroShop Systems, are made with 25% – 33% post-consumer, recycled glass aggregate.
  • MR 5.1 and/or 5.2 – Regional Materials:  Projects located within 500 miles of the Florock factory or aggregate sources may benefit.

Tackling the challenge of LEED Certification reaps rewards on multiple levels and can even include substantial tax benefits to building owners.  As a company committed to sustainability, we’re proud that the commercial flooring we manufacture can contribute. The points earned toward U.S. Green Building Council LEED when choosing Florock Polymer Flooring can make all the difference.
