When David Schmetterer, President of Florock, saw his facility in Chicago’s historic Stockyards neighborhood busting at the seams, he could hardly believe his eyes. It was the “Great Recession” after all! While floor coating competitors were floundering, Florock was indeed growing by leaps and bounds. More space was needed – and fast!
With no possibility for expansion at the current location, David found Florock’s
second home just down the street in a former Annex to the famous Chicago Amphitheater. Some careful planning, serious investment, plenty of teamwork and – voila!
The much-needed new Finished Goods Warehouse brings unprecedented efficiency to the operation. “It’s the first time in (our nearly 60 year) history that we’ve had actual loading docks!” says David. The new location features four large truck bays and, of course, plenty of shelf space. Plus, for the hard-working Florock team: brand new Sales, Customer Support and Shipping/Receiving office suites.
The original building also received a substantial make-over. The previously crowded coatings lab went “under the knife”, emerging as a truly state-of-the-art Research & Development Laboratory.
Manufacturing, along with adjacent raw material storage, now boasts twice the space, allowing for increased capacity as the company grows.
How do the two locations stay in touch? David enthusiastically explains that a high-tech, internet based system makes real-time communication between the two facilities a snap!
Nowadays, all Florock business, including product pick-up, takes place at the bright, new 4350 S. Halsted facility.
